4 ways to embrace winter

I have felt really needed to slow down and some struggle with the cold and gloomy winter days this year; but I found some ways to shift my mindset, which I hope will help you too.

I have been feeling the Winter vibes strongly this year. The longing for sunshine, the warm breeze, blue skies, and feelings of endless possibility. I always aim to choose a positive approach, but something about this Winter makes me restless for it to be Spring. I recently saw a friend of mine who reminded me of something that helped me accept these feelings. I wanted to share them with you too.

“These Winter feelings are normal, as just like nature in Winter, everything hibernates and rests. Then in Spring everything blooms, and comes to life. We are nature.” – A dear and ever-inspiring friend.

This experience made me challenge my sluggish feelings about this season, and I read some of Charlotte Lodey’s inspiring tips in her weekly mail. Here are 4 ways that are helping me move mindfully through this Winter:

1. Listen

Listen to your body and its needs. If you need rest, find ways to nurture your body. If you feel stagnant, take action. Set small intentions every day to do answer what your body is asking you.

2. Breathe

Observe your breath for a moment. Regular slow, steady nasal breathing can help regulate your nervous system and help bring you back from feelings of fear or worry. Try breathing, in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, and repeat until you feel balanced.

3. Move

The best way to shift the energy in your body is to move! It doesn’t have to be intense cardio workouts, it can be a little a dance and shake, walking or cold water swimming.

4. Reflect

Take notice of the things you do every day that bring you joy. How can you cultivate more of these moments? Journal, daydream, draw, or meditate on the things that that make you smile and say yes to doing more of them.

Sending you well wishes and the permission to take rest where you need. If you would like help to take small actionable steps towards a healthier lifestyle in a sustainable way and not sure where to start, please contact me.

Much love,

X Charlotte
