7 Tips For a Healthy Festive Season

Just like the squirrels and bears, let’s use this time to nest, hibernate and reflect through the cold months, and emerge well-rested, ready for Spring.

Taking time out to re-connect and forget about our stress in return for holiday cheer is important to us. However, sometimes we can feel guilt about over-indulging, or exhausted from too much socialising. Before I share my simple tips with you, let’s better understand indulgence. Did you know indulgence can be divided into two categories?

Primary foods’ include your surroundings, the people you are with, the weather, and your home environment - all these things feed you energetically. Then we have ‘secondary foods’ and this includes the food you actually do eat. Both foods influence how we are feeling and working on harmony in both is necessary to keeping holistically healthy during winter. My favourite way to create harmony is to create an intention to focus on.

1. Choose Your Intention

Take a moment to sink into your heart space to feel what intention you want to set this festive season. Mine are “slow down” and “the present of presence”. Say it out loud to see how it feels. Say them first thing in the morning, or while you are waiting in traffic. This simple method helps you stay focused on how you spend your time.

2. Find an Intention Partner

Chances are, there will be people in your life who are modelling the values you are striving for. Confide in them about your intention and ask if they can be your intention partner this season. Hopefully they will be chuffed to help you on your journey, and the extra support will make you smile.

3. Organise Your Intention

Make a list of people and places you think you should avoid this season. This will help you spend more time doing things that are in alignment with your intentions. For example, if crowded stores make you feel depleted of energy, choose quieter times of the day to go or shop online this year.

Other Tips:

4. Stay Physically Active

Did you know you can elevate your metabolic rate for 24 to 48 hrs? Squeeze in strength training a day or two before your feast. The “burn” you feel from strength training is lactic acid and increases your metabolism. Re-hydrating and fuelling is so exciting (to me) after exercise!

5. Save Unhealthy Food for Celebrations

If most of your meals throughout the day are made of quality whole foods, and are high in protein, you will feel better and really able to enjoy the treats! Get in touch with me if you would like to work on this.

6. Keep Drinking Water

A good goal is between 15-30 mls per pound of body weight. With all the extra alcohol consumption and sitting in warm and dry environments, your skin and body will thank you for it. Especially when you drink Kangen water.

7. Extend Your Invitations

Do you know someone who has been through a challenging time? I am aware that the festive days are not always welcome for everybody. Spend a little time to make someone (family, friend or neighbour) feel welcome and loved. You will not only make a difference to the other person, but will experience a lovely heart-opening energy in yourself too!

The upcoming months of hibernation are an opportunity to dream big. If you have health resolutions or personal goals you would like to work on with me in your corner, book a free call, and let’s find out how I can help you.

Much love,

X Charlotte
